Yep, that's definitely how even SEGA of America treats it nowadays unless they're selling something like the Miniconsoles or the (since delisted) retro compilation.

I'll give Nintendo the jump start on the Kart Racing genre... Though I would have gone with MK64 vs Crash Team Racing.

Same with the Battle Royal thing.

MiniConsoles didn't start with the NES/SNES Classic, so we can't really say Nintendo invented it.

Eyy, this is EXACTLY it. Right now I'm writing a story on a spaceship with kaiju decks mixed with norm decks mixed with micro decks and there's consoles with platform dashes filled with space for miniconsoles, which in turn have THEIR own microplatforms, it's fun to imagine~

I don't know where the FUCK it came from but I have this weird sub-obsession (so, not a full on obsession but ALSO I do go out of my way at times) with controllers.

I have weird contraptions for mobiles. I got the PSone and Genesis miniconsoles really only for their controllers.

There have of course been casualties in gaming beyond arcades and handheld consoles:

*Standalone LCD handhelds died in the 1990s
*Pinball nearly died in the late 1990s
*Plug and Play miniconsoles were a fad
*Toys to life and rhythm games were fads
*VR has gone boom and bust over the last decade

Part of it is that if you want Atari stuff, between the modern reproductions, the emulation miniconsoles and collections like Atari 50, you have a bunch of ways to play... basically every 2600 game worth a shit without having to deal with second hand hardware.

"Why not get a Retro Analogue" honestly I like simpler games, pocket designed games, for this stuff, console titles to me still feel console, sit down

I gave away a hacked Charcoal 3DS, a first year I bought off a college friend, for free, and honestly I would love to keep hacking these things and just giving folks offline options. Miniconsoles, too. Maybe personalize, get new frames, get over my fear of breaking shit

Haven't picked up any of the new Game & Watch miniconsoles but I wish Nintendo went going with those. I see that they played it safe but my wishlist
