I will never support concentration camps. Not in Gaza. Not in Nazi occupied Poland. Not in Minidoka. And not in Guantanamo Bay.

Concentration camps are evil.

With the news that the United States is constructing a concentration camp to hold migrants in Guantanamo Bay, we should look to our own past to see how this will be viewed in the future.

Shots I took at Minidoka Japanese Interment Camp in Idaho.

I gave the keynote address at the pilgrimage to Minidoka (the Japanese American incarceration camp where my grandparents met) and it's intended for us, but I'd be honored if you read it, too.

I wrote it for Ahmad Al-Najjar.

It's the true story of how my grandparents met in a JA incarceration camp in Idaho called Minidoka.

It's about the cruelty of racist policies and the resilience of the people those policies target.

But the need to talk to our youngest about these things persists.

Literally know people who's family was interned at Minidoka.
Manzanar, Tule Lake, Heart Mountain, Topaz… I guess none of these names ring a bell for you?

I wrote LOVE IN THE LIBRARY at the start of Trump's first administration in response to the Muslim ban.

I am deeply disappointed that it is once again relevant at the start of a Trump administration, thanks to his mass deportation plans.

Being raised in Seattle in the 1970s and 1980s when internment was still a fresh wound meant knowing a lot of people who were interned. My stepmother's father was pulled from UW school of Medicine and sent to Camp Harmony and then Minidoka. 1/4
i like how this person thinks this is an own instead of the fact that Japanese-Americans believed in America more than the fucking idiots that interned them

I've been to Minidoka. It's not in the middle of nowhere, it's surrounded by wires and fences and sheds stuff. It's not a solemn landscape--it's pretty ugly, actually. And look at the mock-up:

History sure fucking likes a rerun, and I'm sick of it.

Hoping that someday this will be a national historical site of remembrance like Camp Minidoka in Idaho, where Japanese families were interned.

One of the camps, Minidoka, was near enough where I grew up in Idaho. Survivors speak at WWII commemorations in Sun Valley. I remember no one was “negative” or angry. They wanted us to understand HOW. They spoke as a warning, so we know history and don’t repeat it
