NEW: U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson's "reign of terror" in Mississippi "is over," Gov. Tate Reeves says, urging the ousting of the state's only Black member of Congress through redistricting before the end of 2027.

He made that pronouncement even as he canceled a special session on redistricting.

bsky.app Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

“Black Mississippians are nearly 40% of this state, and yet only one congressional district represents them,” Noelle Nolan-Ryder said at the Sept. 22 redistricting hearing in Gulfport. “So I object to mid-decade redistricting as a Mississippian.”

MAGA are continuing their racist attacks by saying Puerto Ricans aren’t Americans because they are called Puerto Ricans.

I guess they should inform Floridians, Texans, Arizonans, New Yorkers, Mississippians, Ohioans, Michiganders and more of that supremely idiotic logic.

Mississippians been tryin' to tell y'all, too
There is a reason I spent several years reporting in Texas and the South.

There's a reason the fiercest Dem resistance lately has been from Black Dems from Texas.

The playbook for what we are seeing on the national stage was tested and fireproofed in the South.

The constant struggle to remind people that over 1 in 3 Mississippians is Black.
I understand not feeling bad for Trump voters who will be hurt by the evil madness they voted for. What I don’t understand is looking at areas that voted for him as monoliths. Even if a place is like 60% Trump that’s a hell of a lot of the population that voted against this.
