year two at college and new cleaners helpfully cleared the desks of thirty six modelmakers one night
next morning the entire course was bin diving looking for all the part-built models, jigs, and works-in-progress...

With Mother’s Day coming up, I just remembered a long forgotten childhood trauma.
We were on day THREE of an Axis & Allies game one summer and we met up ready to continue, only to discover my mom had packed it all back into the box because she thought we were done and wanted to be helpful…😅

Saw somebody on here yesterday who should know better recommending aerosol activator for use with superglues.
PLEASE don't use those aerosols. They're atomised carcinogenic chemicals that are *really* dangerous and rarely used by professional modelmakers. Use liquid accelerators or baking soda!

A guy I apprenticed under - Bill Plampton - got his very first job as a modelmaker working on 2001, sculpting the ape masks for the beginning sequence. He was a Saville Row tailor the week before and got the job because he was "good with his hands." Full-time modelmakers didn't exist back then.

Recently I’ve seen a trend go around where modelmakers (even some rather skilled ones) have been using ai to animate photos of their models, and I do wonder how they can have such little respect for their own work
