#Monads
there's two kinds of programmers:
* those who have to understand what monads are
* those who don't want to learn what monads are

quaternions are the monads of graphics?
don’t quote me on this but i’m fairly sure you can treat quaternions as affine 3-vectors and retrieve the specific 3-vector by dividing by the real component

This just in: Trump administration to repeal Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's doctrine of pre-established harmony of the universe, in which God created non-interacting, independent substances (monads) that are perfectly synchronized with the material world from the beginning.
You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.
Breaking News: The Trump administration repealed the bedrock scientific finding that greenhouse gases threaten human life and well being, meaning that the EPA can no longer regulate them. nyti.ms/4rSszQu

Monads also handle optionality (the better replacement for null)! The interesting insight in monads is that all these very different problems have a similar structure. The problem with monads is that while that’s very interesting, it’s also very unintuitive and so not a very good user interface

Monads have nothing specifically to do with Haskell or I/O. Monads are not even specific to programming. They're just as present in Haskell as in C++ as in plenty of non-programming contexts. It's just a ubiquitous abstract concept one could think about or not, as one likes.
