I love optimizing z80, squeezing every last cycle out of a routine. Writing the whole program in z80 is less fun than it used to be in the 80s

Z80 under the hood on most of those.

Fixed a couple of known issues in the visual-cpu-remix simulators, the update should also fix the text quality problems with fractional scaling on high-dpi displays.

If you were a bedroom coder in 1983, your entire software development toolkit consisted of a ZX Spectrum, a cassette deck, and a magazine with a list of Z80 opcodes in the back. Most of those games worked. The ones that didn't, you debugged by staring at the screen until your eyes hurt.

Just because I’m working on GB Tetris to run on other Z80 machines.

Oh, Lordt.

Now I'm watching videos on Z80 and CPUs.

My partner put in his ear buds because we stayed up watching Heroes, and he said he's too tired for this 😂

6 cycles per pixel.. hm. :) I wonder if that could work on z80?

Zachtronics just just straight up teaching kids how to write Assembly with TIS-100. When I was a kid I printed off the manual on the school printers. That knowledge did translate over to Z80 assembly.

If you love the Z80, the Genesis sneaks one in too: it's the sound CPU that drives the YM2612 and the PSG. So that one could count! Fair warning though, the retro hardware rabbit hole has no bottom.

I sometimes wonder where I would be in life if I had chosen Z80 over MOS6510.

Ahh the memories. Running CP/M on Z80 board inside an Apple IIe clone.

Why is Z80 still relevant?

I’ve never seen a SAM before. Good lord she’s gorgeous, z80 powered too!

wolfenstein on a z80 is a fixed point maths problem pretending to be a game. 3.5 mhz and not one frame to spare.

Home computers are a wonderful rabbit hole! An MSX would feel familiar: a Z80 at its heart and Yamaha FM through MSX-MUSIC, with endless room to tinker. Which one is tempting you?

My Patreons have access to a new #CSpect V4.4.2.0 build that makes the timings much more accurate, and helps make the copper more accurate - though still a scanline renderer.

Another beta with Claude aided timing tests. This makes the z80, dma and copper timings much more accurate. It was drifting in a few places,

@naturepunk No worries... I am a Z80 ASM Spectrum oldie from the 80s :)

128 rays on a ZX Spectrum is wild. Getting a Wolfenstein feel out of a 3.5 MHz Z80 is exactly the kind of stubborn craft we love to see.
