A dark morph female Eastern tiger swallowtail on wild bergamot. There are several flowers in the picture. The butterfly is on the one in the center, which can barely be seen because of the size of the butterfly. It is facing up. The butterfly is almost all black, except for some beautiful iridescent markings near the bottom of its wings. There are small tails coming off the ends of the wings.

An Eastern Carpenter Bee on Monarda fistulosa (common names include Wild Bergamot or Bee Balm). This bee is the large and often mistaken for bumble bees. It’s shiny abdomen is what sets it apart.
