Subscribe to @aftermath.site if you want to read 5000 words about the Mystic Seaport's Moby Dick marathon on Monday, because I own the website and no one can stop me from giving them to you with questions like "what does this have to do with video games"

Sending out the 🐋 signal to the #monthofdick gang!
Working on a HUGE Moby Dick project which I’ll reveal down the road a bit. To get ready for it I’d like to invite you to read the recent Oxford University Press edition with a brilliant introduction written by my friend (& now colleague!) @hesterblum.bsky.social! 🐳📖

A wild thing about sperm whaling is that car transmissions in the US used sperm whale oil until the 1970s 🐳

Start them young! [This is good.] 🐋#MonthOfDick
If you haven’t seen it, I feel you should see my youngest kid’s Moby-Dick cake from their second-grade Moby-Dick themed party. All credit to my husband, who bought the sea cake and made the scene on top.

Now this is how you illustrate a book. Literally breathtaking.

A fun thing about the #monthofdick is that you can post something like, "Had chowder for lunch! (Clam.) 🐋📖" and get like 37 likes and two RTs.

🐋 I love that it’s been almost a year since the #monthofdick reading group but we’re still reskeeting found tidbits to each other. Love y’all.
The narrator of Moby Dick begins by saying "Call me Ishmael," which suggests that was not his REAL name, and my theory is he was the whale working undercover the whole time.

New reply dropped, “I am not used to be spoken to that way, sir; I do but less than half like it, sir.” 🐳

Closing in on the end of Moby Dick with the #MonthOfDick BlueSky book club (which is an experience I HIGHLY recommend, it's been a total blast exploring this extremely strange landmark of literature with a team of snarky and erudite poasters); I'm also finishing up Senlin Ascends, by Josiah Bancroft
