3. The Monster You Love #MonthOfDarkness
I remember when I first saw her. My eyes were still adjusting to this new kind of vision, where I no longer saw people walking around as individuals, but as potential meals or potential allies, or potential enemies. But I remember what I thought when I first saw her. That she was beautiful. She was confident, monstrous, and terrifying. She was leaning against a wall, one black boot raised and pressed back against the surface, she had on an oversized black shirt that extended nearly down to her knees, concealing most of her black shorts that had loose threads swinging in the breeze. Her shirt was loosely spray painted with white paint that read 'Fuck the Cam.' When she turned to look at me, she started at my feet, and then I watched her eyes size me up until she looked directly into my pupils. She scoffed and then looked away, as though she had other bigger important things to do than to look at me. Then she asked me, "New to bloodsucking then, little Cainite?" "Just a few days," I answered. "How do you like it?" and just as I was about to answer, she continued. "And don't give me any of that bullshit about how ethical it is. Just tell me how you like it." I paused, and gave my honest answer. "It feels like this is what I was made for... I love it." "So then don't be so fuckin' scared." She turned to stare at me. Her eyes reflected golden in the moonlight. "You were made for this. It's okay to be the monster you are. Just don't let it fuck with your judgement, and you'll be alright." Those words were the most honest things I had ever heard from a Kindred. From before and ever since. Since then, I have seen her commit unspeakable atrocities in the night. She has drained the living of their blood in front of their families and made them clean up the mess. She keeps fresh victims in her basement, and drinks from them when she is too lazy to hunt, often forgetting about them until it's too late. She's nothing short of a monster. She's my mentor. And I love her.

digitally rendered portrait of a person's face, predominantly bathed in deep blues and vibrant pinks. The subject's eyes are closed, with long, dark eyelashes. Their mouth is slightly open, revealing dark, glossy blood that drips from the upper lip and across their face, obscuring a portion of the nose and cheek.

Perched, legs dangling over the edge I see them walk the same path Trace the steps Right to the spot Nights upon nights They scramble, search Interrogating the very dust, as if it were to speak And i… just watch, silent, broken In 30 minutes they will collapse. One comforting the other. The emotions range Rage, at the fact this is fruitless Grief, at the fact this is fruitless Hope, at the fact this is fruitless It stings all the same When it ends with them screaming my name.

2. Feast of the Damned #MonthOfDarkness
I could smell him before I heard him. Blood from an open wound. An injury of broken bone, not serious enough to bleed him out, but bad enough for the pain to be overwhelming. I could smell it on the night air, and I let it carry me to him. At the bottom of a small cliff was a man yelling for help. He had evidently rode his bike a little too recklessly on this unlit street in the middle of the night. Not exactly a busy area so far outside the city, and I could hear it in his screams, that he thought he was going to die there. I answer his calls, and make my way down the hill. "Hey! Hey! I see you! Hey, please! Please can you help me outta here!? I can't move! I need an ambulance!" In another life, I would have done everything I could to help this poor man. I was compassionate like that. I would take the time to pull him out of where he was stuck. I would have torn my shirt to use as a bandage and a tourniquet for the wound. I would have driven him to the hospital myself. I might have called friends or the fire department to help get this man what he needs. But that was decades ago. And unfortunately for this poor mortal, I was hungry, and no other Kindred had claims to this domain. I watched as the relief on his face when he saw me change to absolute horror. I must have looked like an animal. I know I felt like one when I saw the blood. His pleas for help, turned into pleas for me to get away, but those didn't last either. I sank my fangs into his flesh, and drank deeply. Every last drop. He was not a man in distress. He was a meal for the damned like me. When they find his body, they'll simply say he bled out at the bottom of the bridge while no one heard his cries. It would be a tragic accident. Opportunities like that don't come often. I was fortunate to be able to feed so well and so easily. When I first became this thing that I am, I would have regretted my actions just then. That was back when I thought I was redeemable. I know better now.

digital painting with a strong emphasis on dramatic lighting and color. Composition: The composition is a close-up portrait focusing on the profile of a woman's face, turned upwards towards a bright, intense light source. This tight framing draws the viewer's attention directly to the subject's expression and the emotional weight of the scene. The strong vertical element of the light in the background contrasts with the swirling, circular lines of the background, creating a sense of both divine or intense focus and cosmic movement. The dark silhouette of the hair and shoulders further emphasizes the illuminated face. Color Usage: The color palette is dominated by vibrant and contrasting hues. The subject's skin is rendered in a deep, almost electric blue, which is further intensified by hot pink highlights on the cheeks and lips, creating an unnatural and emotive effect. The tears are depicted as streaks of this same hot pink, emphasizing their intensity and the subject's distress and ecstacy.

The following story has mentions of pregnancy loss. Please keep that in mind going forward. This takes place less than a week post embrace. #MonthOfDarkness prompts day 1: The world you left behind The night hung heavy with an unsettling stillness, devoid of even the soft buzz of crickets. She knelt there, staring at his small, lifeless body, wrapped in shadows that seemed to cling to him like a blanket of starless night. The moonlight illuminating the delicate features that never once had the gift of sparkling with life, now frozen in an eternal sleep. Emotion felt distant, as if the world had dulled, and in that haunting stillness, she grappled with an overwhelming sense of loss that throbbed. “It has been quite a while since your embrace. He departed from this world long ago childe. All that remains is to gently let his body return to the garden.” A voice behind her. A man who was softly touching her shoulder to comfort her. “Did he hurt like I did when it happened?” Claribel asked. Stoic. “He knew no suffering. All he knew was the warmth of your womb, and the beat of your heart when it was there.” A second pair of hands helped her in digging now. Bit by bit, he seemed to dissolve into nothingness. the vibrant plants blossomed all around, they would soon draw nourishment from him, transforming his essence into a cycle of life and growth. Something she would never again experience. That is how her son would live. How he would grow and thrive. “I will never embrace.. I will not make any more of us. If they do not come from my womb, I will not create..” Soft, silent tears streamed down her cheeks, each droplet glistening as it traced a path of sorrow, before finally mingling with the earth beneath her, leaving tiny impressions in the dirt. Crimson impressions. The end. This story was written and included in my OC’S backstory, but never publicly revealed. This was my way of coping with a pregnancy loss. It helped me a lot to write about it. To let it be known even if it was just to my storyteller.
