I actually think a big problem that has been endemic to RPG design for decades is simply that designers don't consider their game mechanics ENOUGH, like the story of Greg Stolze asking the oWoD guys "why do you have variable TNs AND variable success thresholds" and getting blank stares in return

My hottest World of Darkness take is that V5 has just as many problems with racism as oWoD ever did, just different ones.
oWoD had Plenty, from 'Vampire: Japan' to 'World of Darkness: Literally a Slur' being printed.
But v5 pushes cowardly exclusion/safe targets over genuine inclusion.

My hottest World of Darkness take is that V5 has just as many problems with racism as oWoD ever did, just different ones.

total sidenote, but NWOD villains are almost all superior to OWOD villains. The biggest glow-up is Changeling, which went from 'your fourth-grade teacher' to 'the immortal monster who imprisoned you and you might still love.' But Werewolf's Pure are far superior to the Black Spiral Dancers too.
The only WoD villains this admin doesn't have is the Technocracy and that's because they keep trying to fire them

I've mentioned the Captain America Problem (not my invention): you can't have a moral dilemma event with Cap on one side, cos he's always right. Doom is the flip of this, and OWOD exploits it by giving him loads of arguments which would be great if they were not being made by Actual Doctor Doom

As an event though OWOD is in an unfortunate limbo between a longer-term status quo like Dark Reign and an individual story in which stuff has to happen. It both seemed to go on forever and also seemed not to have much impact outside the forest of accompanying miniseries

For all my problems with oWoD in general and Werewolf: The Apocalypse specifically, I love that Pentex are just the Captain Planet villains. Like they don't even get any profit from polluting, they're just the Pollution Company clocking in their shift at the Pollution Factory #WerewolfTheApocalypse

This was canon, in one of the OWoD wwoof supplements the suggestion for the PCs on how to solve a problem was 'find a mage to do it for you'.

Ryan North is a really interesting choice as an event writer because his forte is so much the one- or two-parter, he has a very Silver Age sensibility in pacing terms, so OWOD feels absolutely packed with incident in a way that makes the bigger moments harder to land
