Gawyn (Gawain); Galad (Galahad); Thom Merrlin (Merlin); Egwene al'Vere (Guinevere); Morgase (Morgause); Nynaeve (Nimue). Heck, Rand alThor is pretty much (Arthur) in a bunch of ways, except the one where a different guy named Artur is also Arthur.

Yes: just a little puzzled that Anna is here being treated as distinct from Morgause, when the latter is just later French romance name for the same character (she is also Gwyar in some Welsh texts).

Art by Thalia Took
Morgana, also known as Morgan le Fay, is a fairy queen an sorceress of Arthurian legend. She is one of three elder half-sisters to Arthur who are the daughters of Ygraine and Gorlois, the others being Morgause and Elaine. Morgana hated her half-brother Arthur nearly from the day he was born, and the legends are full of her attempts to bring his downfall. Like Vivian, she is said to have been a pupil of Merlin, and she is much associated with the magical island of Avalon. Avalon, which means "Apple Trees," is a magical paradise-type island or joyous land of the dead which is usually described as an island in the seas of the west, and Morgana may originally have been a sea Goddess. Avalon is also identified with Glastonbury, a great hill or tor in present-day Somerset England, which in modern Welsh is called Ynis Afallach, "Isle of Apples." (Glastonbury Tor was once an island in a shallow marshy lake before the land was drained). An earlier name for it was Ynys Wydrin, or the "Isle of Glass" (though, oddly enough, the English word "Glastonbury" is not a translation), and glass is a substance associated in the Celtic mind with the Otherworld. Many legends speak of fantastic castles or towers made of glass, i.e. made from air or sea water, and Otherworld castles are frequently said to be islands in the sea or the sky, like Caer Arianrhod. The Irish legend of Emain Ablach is a probable antecedent for Avalon. Emain Ablach (ablach means "apples" in Irish) was another magical Otherworld island in the sea off Scotland, which was said to be the home of Manannán mac Lir, the God of the sea. Morgana may have roots in a Celtic sea Goddess. Her epithet "le Fay" translates to "the Fate" (or "the Fairy," itself derived from "fate"), aligning her with a Goddess of the ending of cycles. The picture shows a black haired lady with a gold headband and an indigo cloak with golden astrological symbols on it. She is holding up her cloak with one arm … it’s black underneath. She is smirking and looking off into the distance. She has gold earrings, they look like maybe a crescent moon shape

"But out there in the light I have a young king and a bright sword to do my work for me, and build what will stand when my name is only a word for forgotten songs and outworn wisdom, and when your name, Morgause, is only a hissing in the dark.”

We're in!

I play with my two daughters, so the story centers on Morgane la Fée and Morgause, with Artur and Merlin peripheral threats.

Here's the opening scene. What I posted above comes after this...
Alice saw the lantern lights flickering in the distance, half hidden by the setting sun. She did a quick calculation based on her knowledge of the area, and concluded that the people carrying the lanterns were less than an hour away from the town. She began counting lights, and stopped at fifty. She opened her palm sized leather bound notebook and wrote her observations into the book. Alice looked about at the field of lentils where she stood. She could smell the earthy nutty scent of the lentils. Fading sunlight shone behind trees in the distance. Night birds and bats cried out as they took wing. She could be back to the village in twenty-five minutes. But did she need to warn the village? Couldn’t the lights be a trade caravan or something equally innocuous? They could, Alice knew. But she didn’t think they were. Alice had been born twelve springs prior and had lived in Thornbridge her whole life. In that time, they had been visited by two trade caravans. The village did not lay on any trade route. It did not grow anything exotic. There was no reason to pass through Thornbridge, and no reason to visit. Alice scrunched up her face. She didn’t like the lights in the distance. The lights marched in rows. Straight lines bobbing towards the village. To Alice’s mind, straight lines said soldiers. Thornbridge fell under the administration of the Mab Barony and the Morgause Duchy. The town had to tithe to both. But neither tithe was due. Not for another two weeks. The nobles knew the farmers needed time to bring the crops in from the fields. The field where Alice currently stood was being left fallow. But crops still lay unharvested in other fields. Alice could think of no good reason for nobles to visit Thornbridge, and not with more than fifty people. Twenty-five minutes back to Thornbridge. The lights would be behind her by half an hour. Alice shook her head and made a decision. She slid her notebook into her breast pocket and turned and ran for Thornbridge.

deciding that richild's mother is the distressed damsel means she did get her white-ish hair from her father but fortunately he would have been significantly older than thancred. and fortunately for them both a morgause reveal would add nothing to the specific themes i'm working with for her

She's creepy AF! I suspect White cut her out of the revised version because she's so weird and dark, she kind of doesn't vibe with the book's comic tone. Definitely a precursor to White's Morgause (maybe they were too alike). Love the Disney version of the character, too, but apples and oranges.
