Very excited for this new article to come out! Congratulations to my MS student Stephen Hill on his new paper!

Biological, morphological, ecological, or phylogenetic? In reality, whatever the expert decides.

wow! big congrats to washington voters for banning the handful of trans schoolkids from playing team sports, the only remaining time in their lives to just be kids, and all other kids that feel to meet morphological standards

When did animal evolution accelerate, and do morphological and molecular evolution tell the same story? 🧬🦴

Excited to see our work published in Science Advances! Huge thanks to all my collaborators!

Pretrained vision models (DINOv2, Cell-DINO, STED-FM) already capture rich visual patterns in microscopy images. Turning those embeddings into biological insight is still hard.

PhenoMe links them directly to your experimental metadata and classical morphological measurements.

Sadly not what you asked for, but when I teach about species, I give a few examples of different definitions of the term - biological, morphological, phylogenetic, genetic, etc. - and then show them this table to emphasize how ephemeral the concept actually is.

Returning to do the final editing and formatting on a thing that has finally been accepted after waiting two years since it was submitted. I still can't believe I wrote 45 1.5-spaced MS Word pages on a single morphological ending from a single nominal declension.

Robin John just published his great PhD thesis, combining a large-scale chronological dataset on shouldered points w/ quantitative approaches to morphological evolution. His study shows that artefact variability provides more than a descriptive basis for typological classification. shorturl.at/sY5AI

Conclusory is certainly a word, and “conclusorily” follows morphological convention, but it’s hard to think of many situations in which it wouldn’t sound awkward.

Maybe like “Fred argued conclusorily that the defendant was negligent.”
@ohrobin.bsky.social Could you do me a favor as an academic?
Someone used the word ‘conclusorily’ and asserts it’s a word. Some online sources say it’s nonstandard. Do you know an authority on English who can settle the matter?

AI models learned cellular features from ~1.77 million Cell Painting images and improved benchmark retrieval over CellProfiler. Better image representations still need biological interpretation. 🔬

so tempted to chaos gremlin, but definitions we give the undergrads in the intro biogeography class:
morphological: visual/structural characteristics meet a threshold of similarity
biological: reproducing or potentially reproducing with viable offspring
evolutionary: genetic lineages, blah blah.

Just want to point out how much this analogy holds. This is all allopatric speciation with regional names for the same general pasta dumpling concept. Some expressions of that pasta dumpling concept have drifted in ways which create apparent morphological distinctions but there's still a continuum

For this study we compared behavioural, hormonal and morphological responses from 12 anuran species to predator cues and to exogenous CORT. Morphological responses to CORT and to predators are disassociated and at times even opposite to one another
