#MrRipley
The complete lack of remorse. The sense of entitlement.

Being inside Tom Ripley's head is dizzying. #MrRipley

I had to look up celery remoulade (Mrs. Greenleaf served it to Tom). 🚣 #MrRipley

I’m a little nervous for Marge, staying with Tom. #MrRipley 🚣

And things escalate further. But I’m still interested in what he does even though he does horrible things. #MrRipley 🚣

“She had weeks left to live and had spent so much time writing about how to get away with murder. I fantasized that she might try to kill me.”
My Harrowing Months as Patricia Highsmith’s Assistant
Elena Gosalvez Blanco recalls her time as Patricia Highsmith's assistant in the novelist's final months.

I laughed when I read Tom’s description of Marge and realized she was NOTHING like the sleek blond beauty of Gwyneth.

Hollywood.

From delusions of grandeur to very specific murder thoughts, to brooding thoughtful young man. Quite the ride today.... #MrRipley 🚣

The author’s ability to show how Tom can disassociate himself from himself and become Dickie and then disassociate himself from Dickie and become Tom is brilliant. #MrRipley 🚣

Well, things escalated MUCH faster than I expected. I think I expected at least a couple of chapters of him going back and forth in his mind and planning. 🚣 #MrRipley

Catch-up day. The story has become a bit of a travelogue. Italy through the eyes of Tom Ripley. #MrRipley 🚣

I have to say I enjoyed his description and critique of Dickies painting.... "Tom winced with almost personal shame". The scenes w/i the eyes made me laugh.

Marge lives rent free in Tom's head constantly! He seems to resent he has to consider her at all. imho. #MrRipley

The thing with his aunt was pretty terrible. OTOH he really has a victim mentality and likes to badmouth people he knows who don’t act as he thinks they should. Reminds me of a real life sociopath we’re all familiar with. 🚣 #MrRipley

I managed to retrieve my old, non-shitty, non-burner phone from the airport lost and found, so I actually am caught up with #MrRipley 🚣‍♂️.

I've watched the movie featuring Jude Law as the most beautiful being on the planet, but Tom Ripley's internal narrative is a hell of a lot of fun!

The linen shirt. Seems to congratulate himself for using his own money. Does he distinguish between when a con is worth it, or is he pretending he has standards to live by.🚣🚣‍♀️🚣‍♂️#MrRipley

Good thing it's a catchup day for #MrRipley reading because, unless they are short letters, I think a lot will be kicking off in #Clarissa2025 today. 🚣🏻‍♂️✉️

Now time for the Dennis Hopper version of #MrRipley, The American Friend, although this one is based Ripley's Game, the third in the series. I haven't reread it in ages, so all I remember is it's the art forgery one.

#MrRipley At this point Tom's whack-a-mole frustrated energy as one thing after another crops up--he's concentrating on how Dickie smoothes his hair while meanwhile people are inspecting signatures!--is making me laugh. I'm envisioning a 1950s genderswapped version with Lucille Ball as Tammy Ripley.
