If you're not familiar, it's the theory that around 1900 (125 years ago) there was a great "mudflood" that buried the old world, and neo-classical buildings are actually just the tops of ancient buildings from this previous civilization buried under all the mud.

Tartaria / Mudflood is probably the most extreme theory in all of pseudo-archeology, if not all pseudoscience period. It also ends up accidentally being a sort of reductio ad absurdum of the whole conspiracy theory mindset.

They're obsessed with World's Fairs/Expositions, where only one or two buildings (at most) survived to the present day. They'll wonder "Where did the rest of this ornate city go" and conclude "mudflood" rather than "those buildings were mostly stagecraft and not meant to last more than a year."
