it is turning into a true policy disaster that wilson blew up our coordination agreements with multco and spent millions of dollars during a budget crisis on these shelters that he can't keep open for more than a year
It was the largest of the shelters built during Wilson's 11-month push to open 1,500 new shelter beds.

In addition to policy victories at City Hall, DSA Councilors held status quo politicians & powerful interests accountable by ensuring their backroom activities were forced into the public eye (Moda, for example).
They also defended against attacks on Preschool for All even though it was at MultCo

in this case, 30k multco voters is not nothing. that's about half of kotek's 2022 margin. these are numbers that in and of themselves are significant in a close election

I've been freaked out since Aug. Talked to MANY Dem stalwarts over the summer and was shocked - not surprised - at the level of anger at Kotek in PDX. Persuaded many to hold their nose & vote for her, but ain't easy. If Multco Ds just leave that line blank, she loses. And the "campaign" is MIA.

Looking at the new East MultCo Transpo safety plan. Basically every arterial is a "high injury corridor." It's almost as if these streets are dangerous by design and it's a feature not a bug. I mean, there's no escaping these streets if you want to live a life. What have we done

there’s a circular problem here, multco has been a fucking incompetent disaster when it comes to funding metro, which means metro’s choice for DA can’t actually do the job he was elected to do, which means multco voters (and some of east metro) oust him to replace him with multco’s choice
Yeah it's an artifact of bypassing the paywall, sorry. Here's the map. Basically: Schmidt did well on the eastside W of 205, Vasquez did well everywhere else. Affluent suburbs plus poorer East Portland neighborhoods are a winning tough-on-crime coalition!

There are currently a zillion open precinct committee people positions at Multco Dems as we speak. Just be a registered Dem, vote in elections, and then contact them on their webpage about it. They will vote you in as a PCP in the next monthly meeting.
