Murnong got my vote! Although I'd have voted for the kangaroo paw if I could.

Rowdy Rebel yesterday posted (Twitter) about the "Yam Daisy" or Murnong, a wild edible I had forgotten. The flower below is NOT Murnong but something in my yard.
By all means if you do find Murnong growing (see article) please preserve them.

i'm watching a video on Aboriginal bush tucker and i started crying about a plant (murnong) that was thought to be extinct (because of colonial sheep farming) but was then found again and has been successfully cultivated.

For the last day of summer in Australia, I thought I would share some info on the seven seasons of the Kulin Nation in my region. I have also included photos of the important yam daisy - "Murnong".

More info on the seasons can be found here:

Just came from the Murnong gathering on the Merri creek, celebrating Wurundjeri culture and the revival of Murnong aka yam daisy.

It was a beautiful day and special to be in a community space that can hold all the hard feelings about the world right now.

The kind of thing we need more of.

Murnong grows in most of East Australia is it hasn't been wiped out by grazing.

On my 2023 visit to Australia, my brother and I went searching in a nature reserve for the rare Murnong plant. We didn’t find any but we emerged in this clearing to this magnificent tree.

"There’s only one native Australian species widely used for food outside the country: the macadamia nut. Today, Indigenous Australian chefs and entrepreneurs are helping to reclaim native ingredients and present them in their original context."

I had to Google that one. Yes it's related to the Murnong bush yam; at least in the same tribe. There's also a bush yam that's a true yam, unrelated. tuckerbush.com.au/murnong-yam-...
