Listening to the Muttonbirds now. Seems only right.

I wonder if The Muttonbirds are seeing a measurable spike in streams this weekend? I hope so.

And you just know CB is a massive Muttonbirds fan.
"ah shut up you dickhead" 🤣🤣🤣
Don McGlashon is going to be in big trouble for not referring to Chris Bishop as you Honourable dickhead.🤪
All NZ artists should ban Chris Bishop from attending any of their performances - for life.

'What a load of crap': Bishop seen ranting during Stan Walker's performance
Renowned musician Don McGlashan confronted Bishop over his comments at the event on Thursday night.

Huge fears for Yolla (Muttonbirds -Short Tailed Shearwater) here in Tasmania. All the Aboriginal Rangers have been diverted to searching for dead birds and other wildlife as a priority. A uniquely Aboriginal industry depends on Yolla for cultural connections.

So now we have rats in Dunedin, Pigeons in Grey Lynn, and Muttonbirds halfway down Dominion Road...

Allow the day to slip away.
Enjoy the magic of nature’s rhythm in the twilight skies.
Tomorrow we can begin again.

Apropos of the current "maybe-some-ferries-in-2029" malarkey, I was thinking maybe the National Party should adopt the Muttonbirds' classic "Anchor me" as its theme tune.

Then I read this...

Reminded of that quote* in the Muttonbirds song: “The Queen’s English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it’s good enough for me.”

*Apparently legit. Can’t be bothered looking it up.
What a fucking idiot.

Every time anyone mentions Don McGlashan I feel obliged to say I loved the Muttonbirds so much I used to sneak into bars underage to sing along with Don McGlashan, not to get a drink or a pash on the d-floor.
May 30, 2025 at 9:32 AM
And he ended with "Andy", and a perfect summation of why The Front Lawn and The Muttonbirds mean so much to us Aotearoans of, uh, a certain age.

McGlashan certainly captured a time and place.

Looking forward to that documentary.

There's famously a verse in the Muttonbirds song about wishing to be in Wellington because of the Victorian houses in Mt Vic... no... wait... hang on... It's the walkable mixed use urbanism.

Do they serve Muttonbirds?

Man what if Dua covers the whole side A of Muttonbirds’ “Salty” tonight and I’m. Not. There.
Dua Lipa is apparently covering local acts at each stop on her tour & tonight’s cover was Royals by Lorde. Not a terrible choice but I reckon she should have gone for some Beastwars

Day 20: Environment

Muttonbirds - Nature

A cover of the 1969 Fourmyula song. Wayne Mason wrote the song aged 19 - "in an hour on the front porch of my mum's house, looking out on a beautiful day with trees and stuff. Bees were buzzing and my heart was fluttering."

Down to the absolute DREGS of food in this house (payday is Tuesday). No flour. Only meat in the house is some muttonbirds in the freezer. Half a loaf of cheap bread, some eggs and some tinned beans. Couple of onions, couple of carrots. Omelettes and bean soup it is

We have escaped to the hotel leaving PerthGore Uncle behind to cadge a lift from Gore Aunt. I managed to get two muttonbirds before going though

My mother has retired to bed and has declared we shouldn't have come to Queenstown at all as she feels sick and exhausted. Oh dear
