There was the food and drink, of course, and Claude's speech. There was dancing. For the first time in years, the resistance army had the luxury of facing the dawn without fear, and they had celebrated like it. But there was only so much excitement Byleth could take. When she stepped out for air, Seteth followed her out into the dusky pink twilight. Then, there was the Goddess Tower and the rings. Truthfully, he had never been more thankful to hear the sound of his pager going off. He retrieves it from his pocket, brow furrowed as the message on the screen flashes before his eyes. He suppresses the need to laugh at Charlie’s half sigh, half growl of frustration as the seriousness of the situation settles in. “Bad boating accident. I have to meet the first responders at the hospital.” The axe hits the ground with a loud thud as Charlie drops in to the ground unceremoniously. “Do you want a lift? Would be quicker than you having to double back home for your car.” “That’s okay, it’ll be some time before they arrive.” In the distance, he hears a familiar incessant chirp. “Your landline’s ringing anyways. I imagine for similar reasons.” He smiles softly. “Of course it is.” Charlie exhales, wiping his hands on his jeans. Carlisle recognizes the slightest hint of a frown tinting his expression. The man rests his hands on his hips. “You’re not getting away with leaving me on a cliffhanger, you know.” He’s crossed the distance to press his lips to Charlie’s in a tender reassuring kiss just as the last syllable resonates in his mouth.
