She turned about, a sharp gasp shaking her worse than any shiver that broke through her sudden numbness as her eyes came to rest on the star, shimmering blue and white in the distance. Her mouth gaped. The summation of what she fought for right before her eyes. Aether prickled her skin once more, dark and cold at once, familiar, all of it. Dark and Light, rather. For a moment she simply watched. The utter silence around her as the star turned slowly bringing the first moment of peace she'd felt in so long. Since she'd laid her heart against Elidibus' breast in her Pendants room and counted his heartbeats. She walked some time, climbing the wall of another crater for a better view. For just a glimpse of a moment, the Echo wrapped around her and through her, and she was seeing the star through Elidibus' eyes. Etheirys. Grief swelled in his heart, and anger abounded, tightly reined. Hope and desperation, and amidst it all, an image of her own face swept through his thoughts, preceding intense confusion and… fury. His view turned, and she followed it physically. In the distance, vibrating with power at war with power, he watched an image of chains of aether and Light, pulsing with the rhythm of his own breath. A slow, low, familiar beat beneath it all, emanating from within him, and echoing deep beneath the ground. The vision receded, but the image remained, as real and present as she, yet pulse-less. Her own heart seemed to still behind her ribs At last, she'd found Him. At last, she'd proven her intuition correct. At last, she stood in the furthest reaches her Traveler's heart had taken her wanderer's feet, and looked upon the last remnants of her beloved. Zodiark.

She pushed up, begging knees to prop her up even as she knew they would not. Her indomitable will and, as Emet-Selch had once called it, her adamant soul were simply not enough, and she collapsed. Legs kicked, arms scrabbled for grip. She had no choice but to watch the horrors of Thancred's fate as he pulled her stolen body to his for a hug. Her hand crept up her friend's back. Even one lost was too much to bear. "I…" She was going to fail. Fail Thancred. Fail the Scions wholly. Fail Minfilia. Fail Eorzea and Ishgard and Doma and the First. Fail Hades. Fail Elidibus. Fail Zodiark. And, yes, fail even Hydaelyn. "Fray. Please." Everything in front of her went blazing magenta-red. The edges of her vision narrowed down to a tunnel of darkness. Aether surged through her, warm and loving and angry. "I guess I'll need to carry you." He snorted as their vessel shuddered and climbed to its feet, teetering and threatening to topple as soon as they were upright. "But just this once, eh?"

The amount of dedication I have for this novel: spending what has now become over an hour transcribing names off a 1776 muster roll--just for one chapter. The historian-in-training in me is coming out in full swing with this one.

Here is a jedi knight Qimir before he left the order WIP.
