My dad would buy old consoles cheap a la Greg's list when I was going, so I have 2:
"Mystaria: Realms of Lore" is a How-not-to-do-a-tactics-game for the Sega Saturn.
"Fun 'n Games" for the 3D0 was one of the first times I ever recall glitching in video games.
I still love both.

OKAY LETS HAVE FUN. "Most critically acclaimed thing you hate" is like a free square, so lets hear THE CRITICALLY WORST GAME YOU LIKE. Bonus points if it's actually bad, but 'It's actually slept on' is fine.
Mine is probably Jurassic Park: Trespasser. Magical, shitty game.

cont. from previous:
the pantheon of gods, a breakdown of each country in the realm and how the ancestries and communities of Daggerheart fit into each, as well as a brief breakdown of the Far Worlds: Mystaria and Trillia. Hope you enjoy it!

Yeah! It also reminds me of Mystara on the Saturn. I think it was a bit of a time when they were figuring out how to integrate sprites that looked 3D.

Oddly enough, Fur Fighters was not in the list of 100 games I was going to talk about...
I think I was at #52. ^^;;
But Mystaria was at #20, so I could talk about that drunk, depressed undead ninja OC and the trilogy I never made as a teenager. ^^;;;

Random Game Saturday: Mystaria: Realms of Lore. A likable, baseline strategy RPG in the vein of Shining Force. Early Saturn. Retitled Blazing Heroes after TSR pointed out Mystaria is very close to “Mystara”, the realm from D&D. Jp title: Riglordsaga. How many titles does one game need?!

#RandomGameSaturday Riglord Saga, one of the games that came with my JP Sega Saturn. For some reason it got released twice in the US under the names Mystaria: The Realms of Lore and then later Blazing Heroes.

wow, when @retrohangover.bsky.social was talking about Mystaria being ugly, i had no frame of reference because ive heard of the game but never looked into it, but yeah, WOW.
It's awful and it's not even for technical or lack of talent, just lack of vision, it's artless, generic as hell

Though warmly received in general, Guardian War's place on the 3DO as an exclusive limited its exposure to genre fans. But it wasn't the end of Microcabin who, in 1995, used what they had learned in bringing Mystaria: The Realms of Lore's tactics to the Sega Saturn!

Got nearly to the end of Mystaria: The Realms of Lore today, but the game turns into a really harsh slog in the last few hours and I don't think I've got the patience for it. The abysmal translation really takes it out of me too. Picking something new for next stream =w=
