They were so helpful giving us a home for the hardware running mythtv.org back in the day (maybe still?) and so many other FLOSS projects.

They were so helpful giving us a home for the hardware running mythtv.org back in the day (maybe still?) and so many other FLOSS projects.
My TV (used as a monitor for a MythTV HTPC), is 55". Rearranging some furniture and speakers means I can theoretically go to 85", but a 77" would be the largest I can practically use.
Still, there would be other "complications", and the "chandelier" doesn't exactly help! Hyacinth Bucket, indeed...

Just got my MythTv machine up and running again with a big SAS drive and my stock of DVDs jumped again but still, this just sucks.

The last two I used were MythTV and Kodi? They were both _good_, but when I used them neither of them had "apps" in the sense that YouTube and Netflix, etc. would work. I've got a Plex server, but that _also_ won't do "apps" in that sense.

I used a linux app named MythTV. It's a open source DVR. It scans a newly recorded show for comm breaks and automatically skip them. It was basically close to perfect. This is w/o any AI and on some garbage computer. It blows my mind that these streamers with infinite compute power can't do it.

i hadn't realised just how much the recorder had disappeared. I've loved my MythTV recorder (all be ive just had free view) but its recently died and ive realised that there no alternative than to build another pc to run mythtv. Bring back the Recorder
They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded.
