I assure you she is a monster in our kitchen when I make bacon at home but she loves her “work” so much & she knows what she’s hunting for. (NACSW target odors)

Bogart was on fire this weekend at our NW2 trial. He placed second in vehicles out of 30 teams and third place overall!
He is such a great searcher and so smart. #dogsofbluesky #nacsw #nosework #bogartthepooch

Nosework bear!
So upper levels of NACSW use “distractors” in containers and… Tallie apparently taught herself that distractors don’t pay? There was bacon in a container for her searches today & she didn’t alert on it. Only her target odors. She understands “work” contexts well 😂

Nosework competition today! Tallie completed her anise Odor Recognition Test today. Next up, her clove ORT and then she can move on to NW1 level

Jack & River both passed the #nacsw ORT today! In order to participate in trials for this organization, you have to prove your dog can detect each of the three scents they utilize. Success!! #scentwork #nosework

I am the human companion of a highly food-motivated lab/beagle mix whose nose is usually plastered to the ground, but I have a feeling she's not NACSW material.

Many thanks to the talented Whitney Grissom Photography for capturing our joy! Even on our worst search of the day, still we play!

Noodles & Company got to go play sniffy practice for Cloud's upcoming ORT!
(Spare Noodle, right, is not competing in NACSW, but is getting thrown in during a UKC show. Aussie is doing the ORT, but only needs one odor to be done and move on to NW1; Cloud needs all three because he's never competed.)

also bc I've gotten Qs about this in the past: NACSW nosework uses birch, clove, & anise essential oil, but otherwise exactly the same training that bomb/drug detection dogs do. A dog can learn maybe 2-6 scents REALLY well, so we use 3 essential oils for competition.

Training for this week: Are toys distracting for Tracer while she’s searching? No, because she has more value for the hunt than for the toys on the ground. This is what odor obedience looks like. #nosework #scentwork #toyreward #dogs #dogsports #nacsw #bordercollies
