The literacy standards are pretty low at News Corpse. I reckon they’d bomb Year 5 NAPLAN.

Not to mention the massive NAPLAN distraction & its gaming that Gillard was warned would fail but stubbornly insisted upon being implemented

Yep that will fix everything. It will also improve NAPLAN scores.

What major tests like PISA and NAPLAN get wrong about Indigenous students
We’ve just received the results of the latest PISA test – the international assessment of 15-year-olds’ science, maths and reading skills. In Australia, the reporting followed a script that will be familiar to anyone who keeps an eye on what happens in schools and academic results. Indigenous students were compared to non-Indigenous students and found to be 72 points behind non-Indigenous students in science, 76 behind in reading and 74 points behind in maths. Average scores for PISA are typically around 500 points. Those numbers are accurate – but they tell only part of the story. For example, in PISA, average Indigenous science scores rose 16 points since 2022, while non-Indigenous scores did not move. Indigenous scores in reading and maths also held steady, while non-Indigenous scores dipped. What NAPLAN research tells us The PISA “gap” mirrors reporting of NAPLAN scores, the literacy and numeracy testing of Australian students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. These also highlight how Indigenous students lag behind their non-Indigenous peers. And make no room for talking about Indigenous successes. There are other ways of looking at the scores. A 2024 study led by Peter Anderson, examined a decade of NAPLAN data and found...

It is true. Almost half of us have difficulty reading & understanding written information.

Unbelievable?? Known fact. With the growing % in NAPLAN & PISA (adolescent international literacy) it is not going to reduce anytime soon.

Teachers emailed this morning at 6.30 am obvs to beat the news🤬 So much for NAPLAN n HSC online. This on top of limiting assessment tasks that can be done at home to minuscule, again reducing class instruction time, not to mention the right to disconnect. Knee jerk reaction, 0 collaboration.

Yep, that’s the info I was after. Another of those stupid tests that doesn’t really help anyone. At least NAPLAN is a proper sample size, it’s 4 percent of schools in Australia, dominated by private schools. Some schools charge for participation from memory.

September 8, 2026 at 10:22 PM
Yep, it’s basically an international NAPLAN
September 8, 2026 at 10:20 PM
Ok but I mean it’s not mandatory? It was offered to us but we said no because we weren’t going to pay for it and we weren’t exam fans, especially NAPLAN.

I was made to do it at school but that was 35 years ago.

Yeh that seems wild to me but I know it can still happen here. You need all the documentation here to be approved. But I am not sure about how they check in except for NAPLAN testing.

We still have School of the Air if you are in remote regions.

Victoria is the Education State - our kids achieved the best NAPLAN results in the country and soon we’ll have the best paid teachers in the country.

But with Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition promising $40 billion in cuts - you can bet education is on the chopping block.
