The answer is… it’s complicated
We still use BMI, which comes with lots of “baggage” but shifting to a better measure would cause no end of issues for anyone doing comparisons
The NCMP data certainly shows trends, but I’m not convinced it goes beyond that

I guess my point is, is the primary reason for the visit doesn’t provide a health benefit (eg NCMP) then the secondary benefit is… not that relevant.

Agree - the inclusion of Health Checks always felt like a political requirement, rather than something supported by PH community.
The problem with NCMP is in practice it is considered to be an intervention opportunity - hence result letters. That should be reconsidered / scrapped.

I agree about NHS health checks but it will be useful to continue NCMP though we are not investing enough in system wide interventions to tackle obesity focusing on maternity/early years. I suggest the NHS/ICBs need to be radical investing in prevention-to be core to delivery of clinical strategies!

Just looked it up - NCMP has been going since 2006 - almost 20 years (!) - apparently surveys show parents find the letters useful. Wonder if the research has been done on impact, though?
