NETosis-mediated immunothrombosis yet again implicated in #longCOVID pathogenesis
Mass General Hospital 84 participants study suggests long COVID may persist because spike related immune complexes overactivate neutrophils which release DNA traps that damage blood vessels and promote microclots sustaining inflammation.

Here's "NETosis", a white blood cell called a 'neutrophil' releasing sticky clouds of its DNA (in orange) that can envelop even giant parasitic worms, slowing their progress or killing them.

Another big kablooey!

We've been learning a lot about how Enterococcus faecalis interacts with neutrophils lately.

In our latest preprint, @harisantypas.bsky.social describes how lactic acid from E. faecalis dampens neutrophil metabolism leading to NETosis and phagoytosis suppression.

Neutrophil & platelet activation were also found in folks with Long COVID.

There is a lot of info about neutrophils here, coming pretty fast. VanElzakker is describing spontaneous NETosis in cells from people with Long COVID.

Super excited that our first paper is out in Nature Communications! www.nature.com/articles/s41... !
Chromatin decompaction within the nucleus increases plasma membrane tension promoting NETosis execution, independently of transcription - Nature Communications
Chromatin organizes nuclear DNA, but whether it actively regulates whole-cell mechanics remains unknown. Here, we used NETosis to show that chromatin decompaction within the nucleus increases plasma membrane tension and cell volume, establishing chromatin as a regulator of cell mechanics.

Ok but I’m interested in NETosis in cats
Another example that cats are cuter than dogs - to draw attention to a paper about bronchiectasis in dogs, a veterinary journal uses a cat photo!
There’re less charitable interpretations, but, fact is I noticed the paper!
Note to myself: add a cat photo to next paper
