#NFDad
Yes, I only just found out from NFDad when I was chatting to him today. I do remember very clearly that Grandad *never* talked about the war.

Oh, well, thank you. Never too old! I'm inspired by NFDad. I mean, he came out of King's College Cambridge with a PhD distinction. And now he's going on 88 and still learning every day.
When he's not listening to Fartage. 🙄

We were poor, and hitchhiking, and dried fish was light and nutritious, so we forced ourselves. 🤣 My favourite
holiday ever. Just me and NFDad.

Just refound this photo of NFDad and me. Love it.
I owe that guy so much.
And today's good news means I might actually get my MA before we pop our clogs.

It really is a fantastic feeling when you really hit the target with a lesson. Every bit as strong as writing a good song, say, or I dunno, finishing a good painting etc.

If you're doing teaching properly, it demands every bit of your intelligence and especially creativity. Learnt that from NFDad.

Heyyyy. Yeah, I remember helping NFDad dig the pond at their house in Cornwall. Hard physical work.
I don't envy you in these temperatures.

I learnt my way round a car engine in the 70s from NFDad. We seemed to have our heads under the bonnet of our dark grey Volvo 144L (MSG 394G, fact fans) every chuffing weekend.

All knowledge that's absolutely useless now that you can't even look at a car engine without a PhD in computer science.

And I've got my super-duper headphones thanks to #NFDad so I don't have to listen on the phone speaker.

Dunwich? Wow, I've actually been there with NFDad. I must call him. Thank you very much for letting me know.
July 31, 2026 at 11:08 AM
Oh, didn't know about the Suffolk one. NFDad is in Suffolk. Where's the fire?l
It's 32 here now. I hate it, but it's normal here for this time of year.

I've had my own personal email address for 20 years. It must've paid for itself a hundred thousand times over, I swear. NFDad uses BT, and has done for 30 years. NFSis uses whatever the Apple default is.
The amount of spam I get is infinitesimal compared to the amount they have to plough through

It really was the perfect place. Apart from anything else, she loved it. She and NFDad were members, or whatever they call them.
July 29, 2026 at 10:19 AM
Ah, that sounds like my grandma. 🤣 I reckon most creativity and invention comes from untidy minds. I take the example of #NFDad - his "space" was always a nightmare, but he's one of the most creative teachers I've ever met.

It's not untidiness that bothers me, it's the dirt.

She just sat there stony-faced and knitting while #NFDad and I drank in and commented on TOTP every week. 🤣

NFDad ngets Vera Lynn singalongs at his assisted living place. He's 87, so he was 6 when the war ended.

I'm guessing his exposure to VL and others was pretty limited at that age.
Does my nut this. People currently aged 80 were in their 20s when *this shit* was going on in music, not Vera Lynn and Chesterton Brass Band...
July 14, 2026 at 12:49 PM
Oh! NFDad has done some research on precisely that - the effects of sea level rise on the UK. Scary stuff.
Do you remember me saying he'd prepared for that? Bought himself a boat and a small generator and whatnot.
July 13, 2026 at 10:27 AM
I spent a good deal of my childhood being bombarded with language like that thanks to NFDad. Can't remember what 99% of it means now, though.

But thanks for the QT, I've sent the film off to him - see if he has any ideas.

They are. The noises, the lights, the groans. Thank the gods, well, actually, thank NFDad, for decent noise-cancelling headphones.

Had a good 90-minute chat with my ex-student, and next with #NFDad for Father's Day.
Then computer fiddling while I still have energy.

What are you all up to today?
Wishing you all all the best for the rest of the weekend.

I particularly remember Chester zoo because #NFDad was trying to get a close-up of the tiger right up against the fence.
The tiger took exception to this and drenched him with urine. 🤣

Who knew tigers have a sense of humour?!

#NFDad had a similar problem. In the 70s, the street where he grew up had an influx of immigrants from the Indian subcontinent, to the point where, as he claims, he couldn't understand the shop signs.
I guess he felt alienated. It's no excuse, but I can at least comprehend why he's anti-immigrant.

Thank you very much. When #NFDad saw the Escher, he said it had always been his favourite, too. 😃 It's been mine since I first saw it aged round about 7. Obvs runs in the genes!
Not too much to do today then?
When are you off to France!

#NFDad sent me this photo of Mum. I now talk now it daily.
June 2, 2026 at 10:40 AM
Oh that does sound interesting. I think my initial sources for the history of science were #NFDad and James Burke's Connections. 🤣
May 25, 2026 at 6:53 AM
#NFDad is a Farage fanboi, sadly. Having said which, he did vote Green in the last election.
No, I don't know how that works.
