The FBI has released updated documentation on NIBRS. The manual is a 192 page guide to using NIBRS which is pretty boring and mundane, but it has pretty huge news:

You might think that the richest country in the world would have an available database of arrests, convictions, and sentences for all its major crimes. NIBRS gets to the arrest stage in most jurisdictions. After that, 🤷.

It's anecdotal. We won't have stats on this stuff for a year, assuming NIBRS reporting isn't tampered with. I am judging subjectively by what's been crossing my desk. Some of this is being driven by AI. Criminals are embracing the technology to improve phishing, catfishing and other fraud.

NIBRS was created by the FBI in 1986. The transition to full NIBRS was announced in 2015 under the Obama administration and implemented on Jan 1, 2021 under the Trump administration. Calling it a "new, woke'" system is telling on yourself.

Fair. But, I would kill for court opinion data that detailed. Crime data is finally better w/ NIBRS, but it covers far less of the country. Prison data is laughably bad. So, the ICE database looks like magic by comparison.
