I wouldn’t worry about the NIMBY’s, new stadium will have central government support. #nifc

Good thing the U.S. Forest Service and NIFC are....

Oh never mind.
😩
Wildfires in the Canadian province of Manitoba, which shares a border with the United States, have prompted authorities to declare a state of emergency and order tens of thousands of people to leave their homes.

Winds will likely blow wildfire smoke into Midwestern states.

Another assist for Ramsey. Another goal for Osula.

In possession work for that goal was class. #nifc

Hi from NIFC ⚡️💨🔥

NIFC: “Due to the scope of national fire activity, including numbers of resources committed, number of fires, and number of geographic areas with activity, as of this morning we are at at national preparedness level 5, indicating the highest level of resource mobilization and preparedness.”

This fire is being called two names, not uncommon during a parallel dispatch of NIFC and local City resources.

In the NIFC dispatch logs, it's still the "Nettleton Gulch" fire. I believe Canfield fire is the name in use on the fire grounds.

Just like that we’re 2 up. Just. If Gordon had taken his chance, could’ve been four. #nifc

It's June 1, so we have a new set of monthly fire potential outlooks from NIFC. First up is June, where we have multiple areas with elevated potential, including the Upper Great Lakes, which we don't usually see. Western OR/WA and NorCal seem early too. 1/

I ended up working this into a story i did for the Atlantic after seeing it as nifc. I was so enamored

What a 10-day stint it’s been at NIFC. Today was super emotional walking through the wildland firefighters monument, knowing more names will soon be added to a list too long.

For big fires and fires on govt service land California depends on NIFC and the forest service has been gutted.

NIFC issued their monthly Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook today and it shows a little more red for August than the May 1 map. Our first look at September is just as grim for the western states. Also, keep in mind that the not-red portions mean average fire potential, not reduced. 1/

It's the first work day of the month, so we get the latest Wildland Fire Potential Outlook from NIFC. Here's February and March. Looks rough for the South, Texas, and the Southern Great Plains.

do I know anyone experienced with writing proposals for govt agencies I need to troll NIFC by proposing they hire me on a consultancy basis to do comms for large fires in California so they stop sucking

I used to be able to access Incident Action Plans via NIFC FTP (ftp.wildfire.gov), but it appears that only credentialed individuals can access incident specific data. Anyone know if the Forest Service extends FAMAuth (Wildland Fire Application Portal) to media?

A new fire has started in Eastern Utah, between the Babylon and Ferris/Far Draw Fires. It is already approximately 70 acres per NIFC and has become well established. The big problem with so many dangerous, high-priority fires occurring in one region is resource competition.

NIFC just issued a fuels and fire behavior advisory for the SoCal coast. To have one of these issued in January is shocking.

“The resultant level of fuel volatility would be notable in summer months, and is extraordinary for January.”
