#NIMBYISM
Excuse me did you just call being anti-data centers NIMBYism?
Democrats should do what's right without worrying about what polls well... except for this new kind of NIMBYism that we just invented
If the Democrats let Republicans have this INSANELY easy W, I am going to be apoplectic. This shit polls like chlamydia. Get on the other side of it now and be loud about it.

That is also NIMBYism lol
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

Right-NIMBYism is the generally correct belief that you can keep your city exclusive by blocking new housing.

Left-NIMBYism is the mistaken idea that you can keep your city affordable and attainable by blocking new housing.
probably worth noting that Nazis like Sailer are some of the biggest NIMBYs. it’s deplorable but it makes sense because NIMBYism is fundamentally a reactionary stance

what I’ll never understand is how so many democrats push for the exact same exclusionary policies

Zohran is singlehandedly killing left-NIMBYism we love to see it
Holy shit it's real

One of the few forms of NIMBYism I can get behind.

Umm the good kind of nimbyism???
Wow: "A federal judge in Miami gave the state of Florida 60 days to clear out the immigrant detention facility called Alligator Alcatraz" because of "the environmental impacts the makeshift site was having in the federally protected Everglades."

Florida ordered to dismantle Alligator Alcatraz over environmental impact
The ruling, which gives the state 60 days to act, comes as Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to convert a prison in North Florida into a second immigrant detention site.

Did NIMBYism cook her brain or
This is so incredibly disingenuous holy fuck

this is imo an example of how data center hatred isn't just reflexive nimbyism
This is wild. 93% of the renewable electricity generation added to the Irish grid over that last decade now powers data centers, rather than reducing fossil fuel use. Data centers have pretty much annihilated the health and climate benefits those renewables could have provided.
What is even more striking is that data centre demand has matched 93% of the growth in renewable electricity generation (wind + solar + hydro) over the past decade. If we measure since 2020, data centre demand has grown nearly 3-times faster than renewable electricity growth.

left-NIMBYism is just xenophobia with extra steps
because I want to know if the person to whom I’m talking is a longtime resident familiar with what good housing is here in NYC or a transplant that is simply just wowed by the development of a shiny new building

it’s kinda funny how every single one of these articles is like “neither YIMBYism nor NIMBYism but a secret third thing (NIMBYism)”

data centers, NIMBYism, etc
Elon Musk's xAI has installed more than double the number of gas turbines than it has publicly acknowledged to power its Colossus 2 data center project, without federal permits, and the pollution is hitting predominantly Black neighborhoods the hardest reut.rs/4bIghEm

Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty is the final nail in the coffin of left-NIMBYism.

progressive pro-housing politics is the future
You probably don't know what SEQRA is - but you should know that it's slowing down the housing that we need. Deputy Mayor Leila Bozorg is here to explain why reforming it is key to cutting red tape and building more housing.

*DECREASED NIMBYism.

I guess also my question is: Would you consider protesting putting an ICE detention center in your backyard NIMBYism? Is all building in service of perceived "economic development" NIMBYism? If so, again, words have no meaning.

this is what you sound like when you blame it on NIMBYism btw
Mayor Scott Furgeson was caught on camera saying of the “No Data Center” signs going up that, “I’ve seen a lot of these all over town, but I only see them in shitty houses,” before adding, “most of them are rentals.”
The mayor of Shelbyville, Indiana, says only people who live in ‘shitty houses’ oppose data center
Scott Furgeson “regrets” his “choice of words.”

NIMBYism now, NIMBYism tomorrow, NIMBYism forever
At the Eaton Fire (Altadena) fire community meeting, Kathryn Barger (county board of supervisors) says her goals for rebuilding (2000 structures destroyed!) are: no new density, and no changes in property tax assessments (Prop 13 says valuations only increase if a property is sold or redeveloped).

incredible level of NIMBYism here. “you can’t even study this without neighborhood input”
