Patients are not second class citizens and are objectively at more risk than staff statistically speaking .

This is not okay.
Raina MacIntyre @Globalbiosec Was in hospital just b4 Xmas for 10 days. Wore mask. No staff masked, despite rising covid in Sydney. One day I saw staff were suddenly masked..asked why. Was told there was covid on ward. No other patients told or protected. I had masked from day 1 and used antiviral nasal sprays, and got out without infection. The day I was discharged, the outbreak was spreading, and finally they began testing all patients. Shocking lack of rights for patients. No right to safe healthcare, because covid is ignored as a preventable nosocomial infection. Going to hospital has become a gamble on personal safety.

Dear #NSWCHO.

I saw lots of people wearing masks and respirators today, however, none of those that were sick were wearing one.

It looks like urging people that aren’t worried doesn’t work. Probably need more frequent or stronger messaging.

Zero episodes of coughing observed in mask wearers.

Have you advised pregnant women to wear a respirator yet? Or even try to avoid COVID? What about vaccinations?

Vaccine mandates to be dropped for NSW health workers By Angus Thomson Health workers in NSW will no longer be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 under a state government plan to phase out vaccine mandates in the coming weeks. NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said this morning the government would be talking to the workforce about removing the mandates enforced during the vaccine rollout in August 2021. “We know that COVID is still around but we’ve got to get back on with life,” Ryan Park told Sydney radio station 2GB. “The best thing every one of us can do at the moment is just keep up to date with our vaccination schedule [and] that includes health care workers. But we’ve also got to make sure that we get on with running a health system after COVID, and we can’t continue to operate in the same way that we did in the middle of the pandemic.” Chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant was on board with the changes, he said. Park said anyone who lost their job due to the mandate would be able to re-apply for their job if it was still available or had become vacant. “They’ll obviously be able to put in an application through that normal process – should we make a decision to drop these mandates.”

20% increase in flu spread every week in NSW By Anthony Segaert The spread of influenza in NSW is increasing by 20% each week, prompting health authorities to issue an urgent plea for more vaccinations across the state. Only about half of people aged 65 and over have been vaccinated against the virus this year, despite the huge increases in its spread. As the state grapples with the high circulation of COVID-19, influenza, pneumonia, RSV and whooping cough, NSW Health’s Executive Director of Health Protection Dr Jeremy McAnulty said the increases would continue for several weeks and the vaccination rate was “way too low”. “We’re not yet at the peak, I don’t think, of last year’s season. We’re still on the upswing, and we expect that upswing to continue for the next few weeks before we peak,” he said. “We’ve seen a week-by-week surge in those numbers of the past two or three weeks.” Everyone should get vaccinated to avoid spreading disease to others, he said, but those especially in need of a vaccine are pregnant women, people with underlying health conditions, and those over 65. In the ACT, masks are now mandatory in hospitals, and patients are only allowed two visitors at a time. But NSW has so far not implemented similar measures (each local health district is responsible for implementing measures based on local outbreaks).

Both #GladysBerejiklian & @BradHazzard have claimed they have advice that mandatory masks are unnecessary. The advice must have been vetted by you as CHO. Why have you provided this advice which is diectly contrary to WHO information & the Vic success?

17 of the 30 at this party so far have now tested positive. The secondary household attack rate that @NSWCHO said was previously in the range of 30-40% is now significantly higher. @GladysB said that they are assuming for the moment it’s 100%.
