I don't know if the court reporter who wrote this one up was trying to portray the police in the worst possible light, or if this was simply as bad as it sounds, but it's hard to read this and not think the jury must've misunderstood something. "Compliance punches" are not a special kind of punch.

When Rakesh reders to not seeing institutional racism he may be referring to the official rules and structures. Casual racism by individuals isn't structural or institutional racism. Researchers can point to both existing in #NZpolice. Disappointing if Rakesh doesn't see it or won't call it out.

Rakesh says he hasn't seen institutional racism in (his area of ) #NZpolice. He's in Wellington and is unlikely to catch people being directly racist to him. Sure he's being too polite about the deeper structural issues but starting from aggression isn't his approach. He can still work for better
