Post-Nakba Palestinian nationalism hasn't really descended from the Arab Higher Committee, which was an idle gentry that got wiped in the Nakba. Fatah and Hamas both come from different classes (middle and working classes, respectively), and don't really cite the Mufti as a founder or lost cause.

Like many of Israel's problems, this goes back to the Nakba and post-Nakba military rule on Arab citizens. Arab-Israeli are ethnically and linguistically Palestinian; they're the descendants of those not ethnically cleansed in the Nakba, generally in more peripheral regions of the state.
