Sadly we're a divided nation. Let's get together & finally reach an agreement on whether it's pronounced scone or scone

On #NationalCreamTeaDay we join the Clarkstone family of Holloway as they sit down for a spot of afternoon tea in the early 1900s. Another scone with jam and cream anyone?

Four ladies sit around a table laid out for afternoon tea, with crockery and plates of cakes and sandwiches. They are in a room with sunlight streaming through the window. The walls are covered in wallpaper and the mantlepiece has a large mirror above and a mantelpiece cloth along it. Image courtesy of www.picturethepast.org.uk

Are you Team Cream on Top or Team Jam on Top? #NationalCreamTeaDay

An illustration of two halves of a plain scone. The left has strawberry jam on the base and then a big dollop of clotted cream on top, and the other has a thick layer of cream smeared on the bottom and a dollop of jam on top. The left is labelled with a small cocktail stick Cornwall flag, and the right with that of Devon. Both scone halves sit on white saucers with a cornflower blue gingham rim.

For #NationalCreamTeaDay, after much research, Moley’s conclusion is *enjoy it your way* - #CreamFirst is historic, #JamFirst is modern, so it all depends on whether you prefer a cart horse or a racing car.

Happy #NationalCreamTeaDay.

May your scones be fluffy, your jam fruit-filled and your cream nice and thick (and not melted).

Dare we ask... how do you serve yours?
Scones on plates, cut in half and topped with jam and cream. One is cream first, the other jam first. Also on the table top are a cup of tea, a jar of sugar, jar of jam and tub of cream

Just wanted to draw your attention to this important calendar date.

It’s #NationalCreamTeaDay.
A plate with scone cut in two. One half has jam then cream, the other cream then jam. By the plate are two pots with the jam and cream. A tea cup is just in view too

In the NT Research Team, we like our scones with a side of #NationalCreamTeaDay facts! Here are some of our favourites:
1. Queen Elizabeth II liked her scone jam first, then cream. (We're still on the fence.)
2. The first use of the phrase 'cream tea' dates from 1931 and included bread and butter.

Today's #FunFactFriday lands on #nationalcreamteaday! While there’s much debate around which goes first (a dispute dividing Cornwall and Devon), etiquette gurus Debrett's say you should spread your jam before dolloping cream on top...and we'll leave it there!

Happy #nationalcreamteaday

We like to eat ours on the grass so that we are at one with nature.

Oh you like to eat yours in a museum cafe at a table?

Each to their own. 🤷
We are looking at a plate with a fruit scone, clotted cream, jam and a knife. The plate is on a patch of lush green grass.
