My top tips for #NationalStorytellingWeek:

1) Write the story YOU want to read.

2) No writer can write a perfect story in one draft. You need to write, read, edit, rewrite. Rewriting IS writing! (see art below, by Charles M Schulz)

3) Whatever happens - NEVER GIVE UP!

✍🏽Last year I wrote a free E-Book for Anna Freud for Early Years children, ‘Sometimes Happy, Sometimes Sad’; illustrated by Zenovia Grant. Included a guide from Anna Freud’s, Dr Abigail Miranda and Claudia Carter Coussins.

Public #Libraries like Greenwich Libraries are preparing some brilliant events for #NationalStorytellingWeek. Where better to celebrate storytelling than in the greatest repository of stories, the library?

Celebrating #NationalStorytellingWeek with this 1961 note from #AgathaChristie referring to 'The Big Four' a Poirot story. During the 1930s she used to spend her holidays at the The Shrubs in North Walsham. The house was owned by the McLeods whom she had met in Mesopotamia. #NorfolkHistory

Next week is #NationalStorytellingWeek, part of the National Year of Reading 2026.

The theme is 'Soundtrack your story' because music connects us to words, helping us express ourselves.

Today, to mark #NationalStorytellingWeek, I'm recommending this anthology of 20 short stories from across Africa, edited by the legendary Chinua Achebe and CL Innes. One I dip in and out of regularly. It's quite old but still beautiful.
