A quiet walk between sunlit grass and deep shade, with a glimpse of water along the way. Consider this your gentle nudge to get outside.

A nature reserve wetland opens into shallow water, reeds, a long tree line, and birds dotted along the bank. I let the camera take in the whole place instead of chasing every movement.

Hello DragonSpotters ☺️

One of the BookWyrms is aguish. Mathilde suggested fallen oak lichen to set him right. So we braved the weather & went lichen hunting.

It was soggy but the lane is so pretty we didnt mind.

Slapton Ley View Point is ideal for resting while glimpsing wildlife. White birds skimmed the ripples, & on the opposite bank, I envied the occupants of homes lucky enough to see precious flora and fauna every day.

Only 210 vultures remain in Israel: Nature reserves launch special conservation events - Ynetnews
Israel is home to just 210 to 220 griffon vultures, with only 53 active nests recorded nationwide in 2026, according to the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. The figures highlight the precarious situation facing the country's largest bird of prey, whose population has been severely affected by poisoning and other threats. In an effort to raise awareness and encourage wildlife conservation, the authority is marking October as Vulture Month, offering guided tours, educational activities and family events at four national parks and nature reserves across Israel. The events will introduce visitors to the ecological importance of vultures, the dangers threatening their survival and the conservation programs aimed at rebuilding their population. Vulture Month is traditionally held in September, around International Vulture Awareness Day, but this year's activities were moved to October because of the Jewish holidays. "The vulture is one of the most impressive and remarkable animals in Israeli nature, but its population in Israel is critically endangered," said Mazi Meghnagi, head of the Public Information Division at the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. "Vulture Month is an opportunity to introduce the public to the fascinating world of vultures, learn about the challenges they face and understand the great importance...

Prescribed burn planned for Mount Taylor Nature Reserve on October 20
A prescribed hazard reduction burn is scheduled to take place in the Mount Taylor Nature Reserve on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, subject to suitable weather and fuel moisture conditions. The ACT Parks and Conservation Service will conduct the burn, with experienced fire managers overseeing operations to minimise smoke impact while ensuring safety. The burn aims to reduce fire hazards in the area, enhance ecological quality, and support the ACT's annual Bushfire Operations Plan. Temporary smoke cover may be visible across parts of Canberra during the operation, and the public is advised not to call emergency services unless unattended fires are observed. Fire crews will monitor the burn until completion, with smoke, flames, and glowing embers expected as part of standard procedures. This type of controlled burn is a routine part of bushfire management in the Australian Capital Territory, designed to protect communities and natural environments. The Parks ACT website provides further details on hazard reduction burns and their role in fire prevention strategies. The event follows the standard protocol for such operations, with careful planning to balance ecological benefits and public safety. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for updates on the burn's progress and any potential impacts on air quality. The ACT government continues to prioritise proactive fire management as part of its commitment to safeguarding both urban and natural landscapes from bushfire risks.

The rare Bog Grass Moth found in nature reserve for first time
The Bog Grass Moth was found at Cors Geirch National Nature Reserve on the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, as conservationists were surveying the area's species. An exact population figure in the UK for the Bog Grass Moth is not known, but they have only been recorded in a small number of English counties, such as Dorset. The fen, which is an area of low, flat, wet land, is monitored by Natur am Byth's Llŷn and Ynys Môn project, which aims to protect some of north Wales' most at risk species. As experts from the conservation project gathered at Cors Geirch they set up moth traps and in one night 446 moths made up of 91 different species were collected, with 19 of these being Bog Grass Moths - the first time they had been recorded in this area. Natural Resources Wales said the habitat allowed wet sedges to grow - which is the only food source for the Bog Grass Moth's larvae. Sedges are one of the largest plant families in the world and are most common in wet habitats. Steve Palin and Charles Aron, who are both lepidopterists and specialise in the study of moths, said the beauty of...
