An enjoyable day out in Devon's #SouthHams was topped off at #SlaptonLey this PM. @devonshirenature.bsky.social's #SnowBunting was typically confiding along the Ley's edge, south of the Memorial Car Park. Footage taken from a respectful distance using a telescope. #UKBirding #Birds #DevonBirds

Slapton Ley View Point is ideal for resting while glimpsing wildlife. White birds skimmed the ripples, & on the opposite bank, I envied the occupants of homes lucky enough to see precious flora and fauna every day.

At Slapton Sands, we passed the end of Slapton Ley, the SW's largest lake. Devon’s A379 was closed to cars due to damage by Storm Ingrid. We slipped onto the ghostly road & joined others to and from Torcross.

Torcross, Devon
An idyllic scene, but off to the right is Slapton Ley, site of the disastrous "Operation Tiger" of WWII (a training exercise for the D-Day landings). There's a salvaged Sherman tank at a memorial there.

Turned out to be a great evening at #SlaptonLey today. The #NightHeron showed well below the bridge on Sands Rd 😂. I was relieved to see the Purple Heron fly N after 19.30 having missed it earlier. Big thanks to all the local birders/usual suspects for their help! #DevonBirds #UKBirding #birds
