Initially, I found very little. Even the most massive naval carrier history tomes at my state library were dismissive, with just a few throw-away lines here and there. But the ballooning internet soon provided what appeared a comprehensive answer.

Per NavWeps, the Mine A Mk III had an option for an impact fuze. AND the various A marks I through IV were all basically similar, so it's plausible that this was intentional.

The Pacific, unlike the Black Sea, is very big, which makes even finding your target in the first place very hard.

The shells fired were 14cm shells, and the fortress commander did not order a return fire.

Although the range was only about 3km longer than the fortress's 6-inch guns, the US judged it to be beyond their reach.
