It would be great if NHL players would start wearing neckguards in light of the Johnson tragedy. Help us hockey parents out. Hard to convince the kids to wear them when their heroes don't.

why don't pro hockey players wear neckguards??? i'm constantly seeing fully exposed necks and just hoping no skates come near them

Does no one remember Clint Malarchuk? How were #neckguards not made mandatory after that? It took 11 years but eventually they made helmets mandatory after Bill Masterton. A Boston Bruins player was just cut in the face last week. This is just awful and didnt need to happen. Fix it.
As someone who has played hockey for over 30 years, including several years at the professional level, I am deeply disturbed by the recent incident involving Adam Johnson. While I've witnessed my fair share of intense moments on the ice, I have never seen anything as horrifying as this.

An example of power over players being used in sport is the IIHF making neckguards mandatory for the 2026 winter olympics, in the NHL it’s not required and players can choose if they want to wear one. I personally think this is a good use of power to protect players

I haven't heard it ever mentioned. Even now, few seem to be adopting the neckguards. Maybe it'll all change over time.

Yup! I use mostly regular clothes for my winter bike riding but I do have a pair of Craft cold-weather xc pants for many rides (they look good/normal not puffy or unshapely). As for face, Serfas makes a nice line if you don’t want to use hats/neckguards.
