These lethals are surprisingly common: ~25% for DLG1 and 15-20% for NEO1. Despite their large effects, we see no evidence of purifying selection reducing their frequency. For DLG1, this could be due to a nearby inversion resulting in selective interference.

SLiM simulations show that high recessive lethal frequencies >20% are expected following a severe bottleneck, but also that purging should eventually attenuate high lethal frequencies. The fact that we don’t see this purging effect could again be due to the inversion at DLG1 (less clear for NEO1)
