Still trying to figure this material out. It’s the nepheline syenite from Magnet Cove, Arkansas. It needed a little fluidity and fired hardness, so I added wood ash and silica and a little kaolin. Next batch I think less ash, more kaolin.

Low-iron feldspars are short on the market! They're typically not the main mine product (Custer was secondary to the mica they were mining for drilling fluids).
One of the issues we have with Neph Sy from Ontario is that the Na actually can become soluble and cause deflocculation issues

We're down to basically one domestic feldspar source left - an Na-K feldspar out of NC called Minspar. The next closest is a nepheline syenite out of Canada (unclear whether tariffs will make that out of reach, price-wise for potters)

Foids are my pet peeve - this is a placeholder name that should never be used - call it leucite, nepheline, haüyne, whatever mineral you see. So, I agree, not real, not dangerous ;)

Pure Custer feldspar and nepheline syenite make spectacularly crazed glazes at cone 10R because both supply large amounts of high-expansion Na2O and K2O. Glazes containing a lot of either material need enough lower-expansion chemistry to improve fit. digitalfire.com/picture/1901

Götzenite is such an underappreciated sorosilicate — that Ti-Ca-Na chemistry produces some genuinely wild crystal habits. The fluorine content is what makes it so reactive with late-stage magmatic fluids. Which locality is the specimen from? Nepheline syenite complex?

A pretty but frustrating glaze? These all in theory have the same glaze components. Primarily nepheline syenite, talc, kaolin and iron oxide. Two are glazed from the same batch of glaze! Yet they all look different and i still havent been able to nail down why yet. If its a firing thing i'll cry.

I did not know that, though I’m familiar with a similar occurrence with “Wausau Moonstone”, which is from the nepheline syenite pluton, one of the four Wausau area plutons that are associated with the Wolf River Granite. The translucency of the feldspar gives rise to a blue flash at the right angle.
