Bird lovers, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology needs you! Increasingly birds are incorporating plastic bags, fishing line, etc. into nests: is it harmful? This summer, @cornellbirds.bsky.social and NestWatch are studying the potential impacts of plastics in nests.

It's a special day today - the Bluebird babies are hatching! I am keeping track with the nest with the Nestwatch app, and I was wondering if today was going to be the day... So far, three of the four have made it out of the egg, and the parents are taking good care of them. #birds

If you have not heard double crested cormorants talking, they sound a lot like pigs.

I am currently watching their colony waiting for eggs to hatch, so bear with the frequent photos of them.

Hummingbird nests are made of soft plant down, spider silk & camouflaged with lichen & moss. NestWatch tips on safely checking nests: visiting 1-2X a week for under a minute generally doesn’t affect nesting success & keeping disturbance low gives birds the best chance. nestwatch.org/learn/how-to...

And with that, nesting season has officially begun here. I am so happy that they chose this box and hope that everything goes well. This little lady has a lot of work ahead of her with that big box. We may see baby Chickadees again ❤️ #nestwatch

One stands watch, the other guards the cradle of wind and twig.
In silence, they speak the language of trust—
the wild knows how to build a home.

SO excited to announce our lab's paper, led by @katherinelauck, is out in @ScienceMagazine today!

With >150k nesting records from @CornellBirds' Nestwatch project, we find extreme heat dramatically reduces nest success on farms but not in forests (1/n).

The Wren babies started hatching last night, and then this cute scene happened. The male came over with a snack, and he would not give it to the female, he wanted to feed them himself. These birds can be tiny tyrants but they are also super adorable at times. #nestwatch
