After a recent net yaroze rabbit hole I came across a Ps1 fighting game that i've neevr seen anywhere before!

Judge of ultimate, it plays like smash bros and despite being a demo, It's surprisingly fun!

You’ve got a #Sony #NetYaroze. Do you save it or swap it? If saving, then why? If swapping, then for what? #RetroSaveOrSwap #RetroComputing #ComputerHistory #RetroGaming #VideoGames

Before Steam, itch.io and PSN, Sony’s black Net Yaroze let bedroom coders make real PlayStation games. A strange, limited, brilliant step toward the indie console boom. www.generationamiga.com/2026/06/20/t... #NetYaroze #PS1 #RetroGaming #IndieGames #GameDev
The black PlayStation dev kit that predicted the Indie games boom
In 1997, owning a PlayStation usually meant playing Ridge Racer, Tekken 2 or Tomb Raider until the memory card icons burned themselves into your brain. Maki

I remember the PlayStation era and was thrilled with the idea of NetYaroze... but that was a massive extra cost. Not like the ZX Spectrum which you *could* develop on, for free.

Another clip, its honestly better than i make it look. The cpu si so tough to read that its hard to show off the air juggling, projectile deflects and supers. (plus bluesky really makes you have to pick short clips)

And yes, that was a innocent Net Yaroze just sitting next to the Nintendo DS nitro devkits of which you saw the corner in the previous photo. Too bad it was behind glass, because the textered finish... I... want to... touch it.... I always thought it was just black. #psx #netyaroze

never looked into the weeds of it, but I assume Sony was only able to do a memory lockout via the Net Yaroze compiler. the consoles are near identical to commercial ones

I'd be fascinated to know if any enterprising young programmers found a way around this artificial memory cap

I like how some Japanese exclusive games from that era aren't that much more polished than a NetYaroze game, because discs were cheap and Sony Japan was seemingly down for whatever.

Vous connaissez ACBM l'éditeur du regretté "Les Puces informatique", "Le Virus informatique" et "Pirate magazine" indépendant et sans pub...

Et si il revenaient en 2025 ?
