Takes a shortcut straight up your nose to your brain, just like C19.

The first manuscript by my lab has been published🥳🎉

We investigated disease progression in B6 mice inoculated with bovine H5N1 or VN1203 via aerosols. Interestingly, although virus replication in the lung was similar, we observed drastic differences in neuroinvasion and pathology.

The #H5N1 case below was reported as mild. The patient had normal respiratory effort and oxygen saturation of 97%.
The *only* symptom was intense hemorrhage in both eyes. A high indicative of viral neuroinvasion and blood-retina-brain disruption, as the retina is part of the central nervous system.

The anatomical proximity and direct connection between the olfactory bulb and the orbital prefrontal cortex (OFC) make it a key neuroinvasion route for #COVID in the brain. In patients with #NeuroCovid, we observe thrombotic events, hypometabolism and atrophy in this region.
