Another sunny #parkrunday. Working my way round local ones I’ve not done yet, today I went to Newent. Super friendly, and surprisingly traily (it looks like it will be three laps round playing fields - it’s not!). Am glad I wore speedgoats (not that I was speedy 🤣) #parkrun

Sad to leave Hay after a fun weekend camping/meeting family in the Old Black Lion/buying records/going to talks at the Hay festival. On the way home we stopped in the medieval market town of Newent where time has actually stopped. Love it!

Pub 3207, Cobblers, Newent. Struggled to convince me of its micro charms. Comfy but grey. Pub dog was nicest dude. One man scowled, the rest warmed up. Welsh beer salty like a human stomach. Toilet switch had me perplexed. Newent, you're a funny place.

Confession - although I run @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social there are still quite a few soldierflies that I have never seen 😲 so it was great to find my first Long-horned General (Stratiomys longicornis) in the grounds at work today - only the 2nd record for Oxfordshire (previous was in 2017)
