Image features a square book cover with a pink-faced, blue-haired, cat-eye-glasses-wearing old lady holding a platter of cupcakes, her other hand raised in welcome. Behind her, leafless trees with haunted faces scream silently under a crescent moon. The title of "Nice to Eat You" has the word "Eat" written next to the crossed-out word "Meet." A lavender burst says “Pre-order now.” Below: "Flying into bookstores on July 7, 2026."

I HAVE NEWS! 📣 The deal for my murdery picture book was announced today! #NiceToEatYou will be published by Scholastic, illustrated by Carolina Coroa, and edited by Cindy Kim. This will be my fifth book! To read about the others, visit karenyin.com/books/ 📚

Rachel Matson while at Scholastic acquired world rights to Nice to Eat You by Karen Yin (l.), illustrated by Carolina Coroa, a Hansel and Gretel-inspired Halloween picture book about a sneaky witch who lures a group of children to her house. The witch's verbal gaffes keep the children on their toes as they try to figure out if the witch has their best interests at heart—or if they're the meal. Cindy Kim will edit; publication is set for summer 2025. Jennie Kendrick at Red Fox Literary represented the author, and James McGowan at BookEnds Literary represented the illustrator.

Huge thanks to Gen & Ted for inviting me back to the Asian American History 101 podcast to chat about #NiceToEatYou. In this 30-min. episode, we cover how witches are often coded as Jewish, maximizing art notes, and my advice to authors of AAPI descent.
