Thank you, Kirkus Reviews, for the absolutely bewitching review of #NiceToEatYou! “Coroa’s artwork magnifies both the silliness and the suspense of Yin’s clever text, making for a book that’s both hilarious and (just a bit) scary.” 🧙‍♀️🖤🧁

Below it is the cover of Nice to Eat You, which shows a pink-faced cat-eye-glasses-wearing old lady holding a platter of cupcakes, the other hand raised in welcome. The word "Eat" is written next to the word "Meet," which has been X-ed out. Behind her, leafless trees with haunted faces scream silently under a crescent moon. A sky-blue burst with "Out now" is tacked to the upper right corner of the book.

Huge thanks to Gen & Ted for inviting me back to the Asian American History 101 podcast to chat about #NiceToEatYou. In this 30-min. episode, we cover how witches are often coded as Jewish, maximizing art notes, and my advice to authors of AAPI descent.

I HAVE NEWS! 📣 The deal for my murdery picture book was announced today! #NiceToEatYou will be published by Scholastic, illustrated by Carolina Coroa, and edited by Cindy Kim. This will be my fifth book! To read about the others, visit karenyin.com/books/ 📚

#KidLit #AmWriting #Books
Rachel Matson while at Scholastic acquired world rights to Nice to Eat You by Karen Yin (l.), illustrated by Carolina Coroa, a Hansel and Gretel-inspired Halloween picture book about a sneaky witch who lures a group of children to her house. The witch's verbal gaffes keep the children on their toes as they try to figure out if the witch has their best interests at heart—or if they're the meal. Cindy Kim will edit; publication is set for summer 2025. Jennie Kendrick at Red Fox Literary represented the author, and James McGowan at BookEnds Literary represented the illustrator.
