When I saw that Bandai is doing an armored VF-1S I knew it had to be a reference to one of the Nichimo kits. Roy also showed up like this in the DYRL game for PS1/Saturn.

This must be a custom Longbow or Crossbow for the TCI model kit series from 2nd edition #Battletech. Nichimo never made a 1/200 Destroid Phalanx. Not sure where the rocket pods came from. The rest are Takara-Nitto 1/144 Blockhead & Bigfoot parts. (Wolverine & Battlemaster.) Maker unknown.

This star cluster is called Subaru in Japanese.
I don't know if you can find it over there, but it is a Japanese car manufacturer that was active in the WRC in the late 1990s.
Its former company name was Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd, and before that it was called Nakajima Aircraft Co.

Took a closer look at this Nichimo kit. The M4A1 has a cast hull, which is textured here (maybe too much grain?) And I notice the fenders are also textured, while they should be sheet metal. Still love the kit, but not sure of the best way to remove that texture 😅

The easiest solution is picking up a set of photoetch. I don't believe there is a dedicated set for the Nichimo M4A1, but the Eduardo set for Italeri M4A1s includes fenders which ought to fit.

My understanding is there were two intended audience age groups for the original Macross, little kids who would be wanting the toys from sponsors Takatoku and Mark, and teens, who would be wanting the model kits from sponsors Arii, Bandai, and Nichimo (no it's not normal to have 3 model sponsors)!

The Dragon had the same problems as Border- good details and dubious location marks and fitment issues, Tamiya is brilliant but simplistic, Italeri's is okay and simplistic. That said I've never encounter a Nichimo in the wild.

I keep coming back to the idea that a 1/200 digital model needs to be made of the torso of the Destroid Phalanx that can be resin-printed and fitted to the bottom half of the Tomahawk model. You know, to complete the Nichimo set of Destroids.

👍 There was a Dragon "Battle of the Bulge" in the shop, M4A3 "Thunderbolt" I think? But I passed it up for the M4A1 😅 The Nichimo is quite simplistic at first glance, but it is an early kit I guess. The tracks (rubber) are also a little odd. Will post an overview.
