i'm coining a new nimisin in toki pona: potepata. it means "pjøter bätter" and i will be using it as frequently as possible, so be prepared.

im making a new nimisin to replace the toki pona word ak*si, which is a slur. my nimisin is "pipelo" from toki pona "pipi telo" and if you don't use it instead of a***i, you are an A-SLUR BIGOT, and i will be using akesi as a slur to describe you with negative connotations.

just to be clear. using nimisin in toki pona is okay actually. it's not recommended to learners because they may become overly reliant on them and therefore hard to understand, but PLEASE do not prescribe against their usage. prescriptivism is bad. more love.

I used to use like, at least 50+ nimisin. like way back in 2021. I'm one of the few people who will understand most nimisin oddities because of that. I also maintained nimi ale pona for a while. but even so, many of words are so uncommon that seeing them is jarring for me.

I would recycle it as a particle like la, tan, etc since toki pona grammar is a bit vague.
Alternatively, it could mean 4 instead of the nimisin "po".

i'd like to push back on the idea that seasoned toki pona speakers disliking and recommending against using a lot of nimisin is prescriptive. prescriptivist as a term refers to a systemic practice of prescribing language usage, and i don't think it's really applicable for language pedagogy.

here are the most common words in june 2025. I think I was wrong, it's just kinda what you'd expect. like duh most toki pona words aren't among the top most used, and if they're not, they're probably used as rarely as unpopular nimisin.
