Sap #beetles covered in mites, getting down & dirty in their putrid oozing love spa ❤️ 😘 #Nitidulidae: #Amphicrossus [Costa Rica]

They do clean up nice, though! I love the male's fins 😍 [US species]

Very fancy lil beetle larva from Puerto Rico samples, I’m thinking Nitidulidae but never met one with those sclerotized lateral processes

If you like your skin and bones on the dry side you may be an Omosita. Omosita discoidea, the one I encounter the most often here in Nottinghamshire. #Coleoptera #Nitidulidae

2024 Highlights #6. Found about 20 beetles new to me in Topsham this year, most in the garden. Here's a few of them.

I made a trap out of lees (dead yeast slurry from making wine). I was expecting a lot of Drosophila, but I mostly ended up with Nitidulidae. I think there are at least 3 species here. #coleoptera #beetles

The tips of the antennae are too chunky for Coccidula rufa. Maybe one of the Nitidulidae or Cryptophagidae?? Not much help there… sorry!

Nitidulidae have many useful characters, but my faves are the "antenna bobbles" (compact, rounded antennal club) and shortened elytra, under which you can see just a smidgen of butt hanging out.

Sacred #lotus, Nelumbo nucifera (#Nelumbonaceae), is thermogenic. Most heat is produced in the receptacle, but stamens & tepals also become warm. Carbohydrates “burn” via alternative oxidase (AOX) & generate heat. #Nitidulidae beetles are pollinators. #thermogensis #Botany #PlantScience 🌾🧪

Possibly a variety of pollen beetle. There are, it seems, quite a lot of them and not just the shiny black ones which go for anything yellow.

Some kind of sap beetle, Nitidulidae. The photo was taken last year in Poland.
I believe this may be Glischrochilus quadrisignatus. This species does seem to have been introduced into Europe so the location makes sense.

Nothing springs immediately to mind. It might be in the Nitidulidae though.
