"Living in a democracy means taking public opinion.really seriously" Nonit doesn't! There's no such thing as "public opinion"! There are assumptions, beliefs, intuition, and *arguments for* what public opinion is, but it does not exist outside of that!
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

NONIT HAS JOT BECOME RISKY, CORPORATIONS HAVE JUST BECOME COWARDS. NOT A SINGLE COMPANY HAS BEEN ACTUALLY HURT BY ANY MAGA BACKLASH BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO POWER, THEY ARE JUST REALLY LOUD ASSHOLES.
It was simply a convenient argument for them. Nonit isn't anymore. They have no convictions. They don't care about anyone's rights but their own.
